Kate Winslet’s Co-Star Patrick Wilson Reveals She Got ‘Lots Of Bruises’ Filming Intense Love Scene

Patrick Wilson recently addressed the long-standing buzz surrounding a film he starred in alongside Kate Winslet back in 2006, where the two shared an intimate scene that has remained a topic of discussion.

The actor acknowledged that Hollywood has undergone major shifts in the past two decades, especially when it comes to handling on-screen intimacy.

Wilson and Winslet played the lead roles in Little Children, a film that tells the story of two parents stuck in mundane suburban lives who form a deep connection. Their attraction eventually leads to a passionate affair after spending time together during their children’s playdates.

For many fans of the movie, the chemistry between the two leads is unforgettable, especially in one particular scene that turned up the heat.

While speaking on the It Happened in Hollywood podcast, Wilson reflected on filming that scene, admitting that he feels like a “dinosaur” when he looks back at it. He pointed out that the industry has evolved significantly, with the introduction of intimacy coordinators making a huge difference in how such scenes are filmed today.

He said: “[Kate] was so cool and gracious and just a gamer – just like, ‘Let’s go for it.'”

“There was never one awkward or weird moment. Never one. I loved it.”

Wilson also confirmed that there were no body doubles involved in filming the scene—what audiences saw on screen was just him and Winslet. However, they did use modesty coverings to maintain some privacy, though those were carefully kept out of the frame.

He also took a moment to clear up speculation that Winslet ended up with bruises due to how physically demanding the scene was. Their performance was intense, and according to Wilson, it was a full commitment from both of them.

He said: “I’m sure there were lots of bruises. Put it this way: I haven’t done a scene like that since post-#MeToo and intimacy coordinators.”

“I do feel a little bit like a dinosaur when it comes to [having appeared in] those kind of love scenes.”

At the time of the film’s release, Winslet shared her thoughts on filming those scenes. She spoke about how she and Wilson worked together to bring out the best in each other, ensuring that their performances felt natural and authentic on screen.

Discussing how they prepared for the scene, Winslet revealed that she and Wilson took a very thoughtful approach. Instead of jumping straight into filming, they first rehearsed the scene fully clothed to figure out what would work best for the camera.

She said: “We rehearsed the scene fully clothed, without anyone in the room; just us and Todd, and we just got a general shape of the scene so we knew what to expect.”

At the time Winslet also spoke fondly of shooting the sceneNew Line Cinema
“We did look out for each other and we laughed a hell of a lot. It sounds ridiculous but at a certain point you forget that you’re naked with a relative stranger. … My hips and backside really hurt the next day.”
